Breaking Free: Women Overcoming Limiting Beliefs About Creating Wealth.

Many women face internal barriers when it comes to building wealth, often driven by deeply rooted limiting beliefs. A “limiting belief” is a state of mind or belief about yourself that restricts you in some way.  These beliefs, shaped by personal experiences, societal expectations, and cultural norms, can significantly impact our actions and decisions as well as prevent us (women) from stepping into financial freedom. But the truth is, you are capable of creating lasting wealth—and it starts with changing your mindset.  As a wealth confidence coach specializing in helping women overcome limiting money beliefs, I have seen firsthand how mindset can impact wealth creation.

We will explore how to identify and overcome some of the limiting money beliefs that hold women back and actionable steps to shift your mindset and build wealth.

Common Limiting Beliefs About Wealth

  1. “I’m not good with money.” Society often portrays men as the financial decision-makers, leaving women to feel less confident in managing money. This belief undermines our ability to take charge of our finances.

Rephrase with positivity - “I can learn and grow my financial skills just like anything else.”

  1. “I don’t deserve to be wealthy.” Cultural conditioning may have taught many of us as women to prioritize the needs of others over our own ambitions. But wealth is not selfish—it is a tool for empowerment, generosity, and creating impact.

Rephrase with positivity - “Wealth allows me to give back and live abundantly.”

  1. “Wealth is for other people, not me.”

Seeing success stories of other women might feel inspiring—but also discouraging if you think wealth is out of reach for “someone like you.”

Rephrase with positivity  “If others can create wealth, so can I.”

The Role of Societal Conditioning

Women experience societal pressures and conditioning that have contributed to our limiting beliefs about creating wealth.  Societal conditioning refers to the way societal norms, cultural values and collective expectations shape our beliefs, behaviors and perceptions about what is possible in our lives.  From an early age, many of us absorbed societal norms and messaging about how we “should” behave, what roles we “should” fulfill, and what we are “allowed” to achieve; all played a significant role in shaping our beliefs about creating wealth and success:

●      Gender Roles: Historically, women had been excluded from financial systems, leading to the belief that money is not our domain.

●      Media Messages: Women are often marketed as spenders, while men are seen as investors or savers.

●      Family Dynamics: Generations of financial struggle or silence around money may have taught some of us as women that wealth is unattainable or even a taboo to discuss.  This one was a big issue for me and it took me a while to overcome as the generational financial struggle was made out to be a norm for my home environment and what I should plan for my future to entail.  I knew I had to break free from this and I want you to know that you can too.  Maybe you have broken free from this mindset, but need more guidance on how to be a better steward over what God has blessed you with.  It is all about a shifting of our mindset.

In order to break free from the societal conditioning that we have experienced we must do a few things

  1. Recognize the Source: This requires going deep into the roots which requires research.  I asked questions of my grandparents and even my great grandparents because I wanted to understand the mindset of those who grew up in conditions less fortunate than me.  This exercise helped me to understand the comments I would hear like, “Money doesn’t grow on trees” or “Rich people are greedy” growing up? It takes challenging those messages and their validity.

  2. Surround Yourself with Positive Examples:

Seek out stories of women who have successfully built wealth. Seeing other women thrive reinforces the belief that you can too. Yes you can do it!

  3. Rewrite the Narrative:

Take ownership of your financial story by creating new beliefs:

From “I’ll never understand investing” to “I’m capable of learning the skills to grow my wealth.”

Steps to Overcome Limiting Beliefs About Wealth

  1. Adopt an Abundance Mindset:

Shift your focus from scarcity to possibility. Wealth is not a finite resource—it is available to those who pursue it intentionally.

  2. Set Clear Financial Goals:

Wealth-building starts with clarity. Write down your financial dreams, whether it is saving for a home, starting a business, or creating generational wealth.

  3. Invest in Financial Education:

Knowledge is power. Take courses, read books, or work with a wealth confidence coach such as myself to build your confidence and skills.

  4. Create an Emergency Fund:

Having a financial safety net provides security and eliminates the fear of the unexpected, making it easier to focus on long-term goals.

  5. Celebrate Progress:

Recognize and celebrate every financial milestone, no matter how small. Each step forward reinforces your ability to succeed.

I cannot let you go without providing some biblical principles to inspire your wealth building journey!

Biblical Principles to Inspire Your Wealth-Building Journey

For those who value faith, the Bible offers wisdom on stewardship and prosperity:

●      Proverbs 31:16: “She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings, she plants a vineyard.” This verse celebrates a woman’s ability to make wise financial decisions.

●      Deuteronomy 8:18: “But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”

●      Proverbs 23:7a: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” Do you see yourself as God sees you?

These scriptures remind us that wealth is not only achievable but a tool to serve others and fulfill our purpose.
